2006 First Team All-District 2006 Second Team All-District 2006 First Team All-Western Missouri Region 2006 Second Team All-Western Missouri Region 2006 Second Team All-State Sion Soccer is about to embark on one of its most challenging seasons yet. Make sure to check out the Storm's schedule that includes matches against some of the nation's best teams according to the FAB 50 Spring Girls Soccer Rankings. This year's schedule includes games against several perennial powers. March 27th: # 24 Olathe South (KS) April 4th: #6 St. Teresa's Academy (MO) April 8th: #1 Neuqua Valley (IL) May 8th: #2 St. Thomas Aquinas (KS) 5-17-06 The Storm advanced to the District final game last night by defeating North Kansas City 4-0. Sion received goals from Kate Vignatelli, Madde Adkins, and two from Kaitlin Bowen. Assisting the goals was Kelly Watkins, Katie Klamann, and Rachael Brennan. The team plays St. Teresa’s Thursday at 5:00 pm up at Northgate Middle School. 5-11-06 The senior soccer class of 2006 gave everyone a little bit of a scare last night. In their final home game of their careers, the four seniors came away from the Miege game with a 2-0 victory. Coming off of the game of their lives Monday against Aquinas, the Storm took a little while to get going on Wednesday’s Senior Night. After the emotional and physically draining 100 minutes of soccer on Monday, the girls seemed a bit tired and a step slower last night. But in true senior fashion, Kaitlin, Katie, Kelly, and Allison pulled it together at the end of the game and came away with the win. Fittingly, it was our seniors who led the late game surge. After receiving a through ball from Melgaard, Watkins raced down the sideline and served a ball across the box. Kaitlin Bowen was there to put away the cross and break the 0-0 tie. Just a few short minutes later, Bowen struck again. This time her shot was saved, but Kate Vignatelli followed the shot and tucked away the late insurance goal, assuring that the four seniors would walk away from the special night with a victory. Congratulations class of 2006—you’ve been great, and we know the best is still yet to come. Melissa Pacheco and Re Larson were both credited with the shutout. The Storm is now 8-2-1 in their last 11 games—a pretty good roll to be heading into districts with. Sion will open districts next Tuesday at Northgate Middle School; they play the winner of North Kansas City and Northeast High School. 5-9-06 In a game for the ages, the Sion Soccer team tied St. Thomas Aquinas last night 0-0 in double overtime. For one hundred minutes of soccer, the Storm stood toe to toe with the nationally ranked team. Both teams had wonderful chances to score, but all attempts ended up sailing wide of the goal or being corralled by the outstanding goalkeeping of Melissa Pacheco and Hannah Koester (STA). The team played marvelously well throughout the entire game and both overtime periods. They definitely seem to be coming together as a team—just in time for the playoffs too!!!! 5-5-06 The storm avenged last season’s over-time loss to Blue Springs by defeating them last night 2-0. Sion received goals from both senior outside mids, Katie Klamann and Kelly Watkins. After a first half that was, to say the least, not pretty, the team came out in the second half and played with more purpose and more intensity. Klamann’s goal came early in the second half and Watkins, assisted by Melgaard, added an insurance goal late in the game. The Storm is at St. Thomas Aquinas Monday at 6:30. 5-4-06 The soccer team got back on track last night with its winning ways. In a game that was shortened twenty minutes due to storms, the team posted a 5-1 victory against O’Hara. Kaitlin Bowen and Annie Shepard each tallied two goals while Kate Vignatelli added one of her own as well. Kelly Watkins had two assists, both of which went to Bowen. Maddie Adkins and Jill McCaffrey also provided assists. 4-26-06 The Storm won its fifth game in six outings last night by defeating St. Pius 7-0. Sion received goals from Kaitlin Bowen (2), Jill McCaffrey (2), Annie Shepard, Caroline Roth, and Allison Melgaard. The goals were assisted by Kelly Watkins (2), Katie Klamann, Allison Melgaard, and Lauren Chalmers. The team will try to avenge an early season loss to Lee’s Summit North tomorrow night at the Bronco Stadium on LSN’s campus. 4-25-06 The Sion soccer team made its first trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin this past weekend. The ladies lost to Divine Savior Holy Angels on Friday night 1-0. The team played extremely well; unfortunately the ball didn’t bounce the Storm’s way. After Sion’s dominant play throughout most the game, DSHA scored the winning goal with 5 minutes left in the game. The team then turned around Saturday and played just as well, but this time, the ball bounced their way. The Storm posted a 5-0 shutout of Whitefish Bay High School. Kate Vignatelli, along with Kelly Watkins, scored two goals, and Madde Adkins recorded her first career goal. Katie Klaman assisted on two goals and Louise Richter added an assist also. 4-10-06 The Storm tied both games this weekend on their trip to St. Louis. They played Neuqua Valley (# 13 in the country) on Saturday at Noon and tied 2-2. Kate Vignatelli and Annie Shepard scored the two goals. Then turned around and played two hours later against Hazelwood Central and tied 0-0. 3-30-06 The Storm beat Liberty last night 2-0. Kate Vignatelli scored in the first half and was assisted by Kelly Watkins. Kaitlin Bowen added an insurance goal in the second half; she was assisted by Katie Klamann. | ||||||
