The top-seeded Storm soccer team beat Grain Valley 2-0 to win the MSHSAA District 13 Championship. On Tuesday they will play District 14 Champion, Van Horn.
Congratulations to the track team on their great 4th place performance at the the district meet. Congratulations to district champions: 4 x 800 (Meghan Kearney, Ali Gregory, Julie Steilen and Mary Frances Donnelly) and Michelle King 300 hurdles. The following girls will also be representing Sion at the sectional meet this weekend: 1600 - Meghan Kearney and Julie Steilen, 800 - Mary Frances Donnelly and Meghan Kearney, 4 x 400 (Meghan Kearney, Ali Gregory, Michelle King, Mary Frances Donnelly). Congratulations to Grace Keane on being selected to the sports writer's All-State basketball team. Basketball - The Storm beat Lincoln 53-43 for the MSHSAA District 14 Championship but lost to Pleasant Hill 42-46 in the sectional. Cross Country - The cross country team won the District 7 championship for the 14th time in the last 16 years. The team placed 7th in the MSHSAA Class 3 State Championship. Field Hockey - The field hockey team beat Heritage Hall 2-1 on Senior Day. Golf - After winning the district tournament, the golf team placed 8th at the shortened MSHSAA Class 2 tournament. They were led by Grace Keane (16th), Amanda Malecki (49th), Hannah Malvey (49th), Maura Healy (80th) and Claire Kramer (83rd). Lacrosse - The lacrosse team beat St. Teresa's Academy in their opener, 12-10. Soccer - The soccer team beat Pembroke Hill in their opener, 2-1. Softball - The Storm placed 2nd in the Class 4 District 13 tournament falling 3-1 to Belton. Swim & Dive - The Storm placed 11th at the MSHSAA Championship. Tennis - Doubles team Denise Chiao and Anna Koutelas lost in the first round at the state championship. Michaela Henne and Brydie O'Connor both made it to the semifinals and received medals. Track & Field - The first day of practice is Monday, February 27, 2012. Volleyball - The Storm fell to Ray-Pec in the district volleyball semi finals.
